COCOMI, alongside the public, will march to the Chief Minister’s residence on April 25 to demand clear answers to six pressing questions over the ongoing Manipur unrest and the government’s continued silence.

COCOMI Press Meet

IMPHAL – The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), together with members of the public, will march to the Chief Minister’s bungalow on April 25 to demand a clear decision and answers to six specific questions regarding the ongoing Manipur crisis. The announcement was made by COCOMI Convener Y.K. Dhiren at a press conference held at the committee’s office in Lamphelpat.

Dhiren stated that COCOMI and the public have been continuously launching movements urging the government to take necessary action against the ongoing unrest in Manipur. He said Kuki narco-terrorists have been relentlessly killing innocent civilians. He cited the recent killing of two young children in Tronglaobi, following which three more civilians were killed by the CRPF during subsequent protests. Additionally, two members of the Tangkhul community were killed in Ukhrul.

Despite the gravity of these incidents, the government has remained silent, merely stating that the cases have been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) without offering any clear decision or course of action. The government’s inaction has been so stark that even the political activities of the BJP have faced public boycott.

The March and Six Demands

As part of its ongoing movement, COCOMI will lead citizens from across the region to the Chief Minister’s bungalow to pose the following six questions through a democratic march:

1.       Can the Manipur Government not pressure the Government of India to courageously stop the proxy war aimed at exterminating the indigenous people of Manipur?

2.      Will the Manipur Government not uproot Kuki narco-terrorism from Manipur?

3.      Will the Manipur Government not provide justice by arresting and prosecuting the terrorists responsible for killing the children in Tronglaobi and the two Tangkhul civilians in TM Kasom?

4.      Will the Manipur Government not conduct a judicial inquiry into the killing of three civilians by the CRPF in Tronglaobi and take action against the guilty CRPF personnel?

5.      Will the Manipur Government not take steps to resettle Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in their respective homes within a fixed timeframe?

6.      Will the Manipur Government not abrogate the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement?

COCOMI has urged the public from every part of the region to participate in the march. Participants are to assemble at a designated location in Imphal on April 25 at 1:00 PM. An appeal was made for the public to turn out in large numbers to make their voices heard.
