Imphal, May 17: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday inspected the ongoing improvement works of the Imphal-Saikul road and reviewed the progress of the project being executed by the Public Works Department.
According to an official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the Chief Minister visited the project site in the evening and assessed the current status of the road development works.
The road improvement project was flagged off by the Chief Minister on March 14 this year.
During the inspection, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Chongtham Bishwachandra briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of the work and the present stage of construction, the statement said.
The Chief Minister instructed the officials concerned to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining the required quality and construction standards.
Officials said the Imphal-Saikul road is an important connectivity route for several areas and the ongoing improvement work is expected to ease transportation and movement for residents using the stretch regularly.
On his way to the inspection site, the Chief Minister was received by local clubs and residents from Pangei and Khundrakpam areas. Residents reportedly raised issues related to local grievances and difficulties faced in the area, including the need for better basic infrastructure and public amenities.
The Chief Minister interacted with the residents and thanked them for the reception accorded to him during the visit. He also assured the people that the government would examine possibilities for further development initiatives aimed at improving public welfare in the area.
The visit comes amid the state government’s continued focus on road connectivity and infrastructure improvement projects in different parts of Manipur.
