Imphal, May 21: The Manipur government has shortened the summer vacation for schools affiliated to the Board of Secondary Education Manipur and the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur in the valley districts for the academic session 2026-27 following disruption of classes earlier this year.

According to an order issued by the Secretariat: Education (S) Department on Wednesday, the earlier summer vacation period scheduled from June 8 to June 27, 2026, has now been reduced to June 21 to June 28, 2026.

The order stated that academic activities in the valley districts were disrupted from April 7 to April 26, 2026, resulting in the loss of instructional days in schools. The government said the decision to curtail the vacation period was taken to compensate for the lost working days and ensure timely completion of the academic schedule.

Officials said the revised vacation schedule would apply only to schools located in the valley districts. Schools situated in the hill districts will continue to follow the existing academic calendar and previously notified summer vacation schedule without any changes.

The directive was communicated to the Director of Education (S), Manipur after receiving government approval for the revision in the academic calendar. The order was issued by the Education (S) Department for implementation in all concerned schools.

The revised schedule is expected to impact thousands of students, teachers and school administrations across the valley districts, where educational activities had remained affected during the period mentioned in the notification. Schools are likely to reorganise their academic plans and classroom schedules in accordance with the revised calendar.
