NCERT, as National Coordinator for school education under SWAYAM, is offering 29 free online course modules for Classes XI and XII across 11 subjects in the 2026 cycle. Enrolment is open until 1 September 2026; final exams are scheduled for 10-15 September 2026. Courses are accessible free of cost.
IMPHAL — The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has designated NCERT as the National Coordinator (NC) for school-level MOOCs under the SWAYAM framework, with a specific mandate covering Classes IX to XII. The technical and operational responsibility for content development and dissemination rests with the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), a constituent unit of NCERT headquartered at Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi.
SWAYAM — an acronym for Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds — was launched by the Government of India on 9 July 2017 under the Digital India initiative. The platform has since recorded over 56 million cumulative enrolments and has issued more than 5.2 million certificates. To date, more than 11,772 courses have been offered across all levels.
Ten National Coordinators manage different segments of the platform: NPTEL for engineering, UGC for non-technical postgraduate education, CEC for undergraduate education, NCERT and NIOS for school education, IGNOU for out-of-school learners, IIMB for management studies, NITTTR for teacher training, and AICTE for self-paced and international courses.
For the 2026 academic session, NCERT has made available 29 course modules spanning 11 subjects for students of Classes XI and XII. These include both Part-I and Part-II modules in subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Geography, and Psychology. Courses in Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, English (under the APPEAR programme), and Sociology are also part of the offering.
All courses are available free of charge through the SWAYAM portal at swayam.gov.in and via the SWAYAM mobile application. Each course runs for 21 weeks, beginning 1 May 2026, with enrolment remaining open until 1 September 2026.
