NIT Manipur organised a workshop on academic integrity and effective use of Turnitin AI detection tools for research scholars and faculty members.
Imphal, May 30: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur organised a workshop on “Academic Integrity in the Age of AI: Using Turnitin Effectively” at its campus in Langol, Imphal, on Friday to promote ethical research practices and effective use of plagiarism detection tools.
The workshop was organised by the NDLI Club of NIT Manipur and focused on the use of Turnitin Feedback Studio with Originality and AI Detection features to strengthen academic integrity and improve research quality.
Director of NIT Manipur, Prof. D. V. L. N. Somayajulu, attended the programme as the chief guest. The event was presided over by Registrar Kh. Tomba Singh in the presence of representatives from Turnitin Pvt. Ltd, including Milon Kumar Mondal and Akshay Prasanna.
Addressing the gathering, the Director highlighted the growing importance of using modern academic integrity tools in the evolving research environment, especially in the age of artificial intelligence.
He said maintaining honesty, originality and integrity remains essential for quality research and academic excellence.
The workshop was attended by PhD scholars, faculty members and non-teaching staff of the institute.
During his address, Registrar Kh. Tomba Singh appreciated the usefulness of the Turnitin platform and encouraged participants to make full use of modern technological tools available for academic and research work.
He noted that such opportunities and digital tools were not readily accessible in earlier years and said they could significantly enhance research capabilities when used responsibly.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr. N. Vidyavati Devi, Assistant Librarian of the Central Library, NIT Manipur.
The programme was hosted by Priya Sharma and Rishabh Sharma, both Library and Information Assistants at the institute.
The technical session was conducted by Akshay Prasanna, Customer Success Manager at Turnitin, who explained the practical use of Turnitin Feedback Studio, including its originality checking and AI detection features.
Participants were introduced to methods of maintaining academic integrity, preventing plagiarism and improving the quality of scholarly writing and research submissions.
According to the organisers, a total of 55 participants took part in the workshop, including research scholars, faculty members and non-teaching staff.
The organisers stated that the participants gained practical insights into the effective use of AI-supported academic tools for maintaining research standards and improving publication quality.
At the conclusion of the programme, a quiz competition was conducted to assess participants’ understanding of the concepts and tools discussed during the workshop.
Participants actively took part in the interactive session, and prizes were awarded to those securing the first, second and third positions in the competition.
The workshop comes at a time when educational and research institutions across the country are increasingly focusing on ethical use of artificial intelligence and digital tools in academic work.
