Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the Land Port Management System on June 9 and inaugurate new facilities at Dawki and Srimantapur land ports.
New Delhi, June 7: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) in New Delhi on June 9, marking a major step towards technology-driven management of India's land border infrastructure.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said the initiative is aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and security in cross-border trade and passenger movement through the use of digital technologies. The launch forms part of the government's broader efforts to modernise border management systems and strengthen connectivity and trade facilitation.
On the occasion, Amit Shah will also inaugurate newly developed stakeholder accommodation facilities at the Dawki Land Port in Meghalaya and the Srimantapur Land Port in Tripura. The facilities are intended to support border management operations and provide improved amenities for personnel and other stakeholders involved in land port activities.
The LPMS has been developed as a digital platform that integrates operations across India's land ports into a unified system. According to officials, it will enable secure and real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information, helping land ports achieve a level of digital integration comparable to that of airports and seaports.
The platform is designed to support coordination among government agencies, transport operators, traders and other stakeholders. Authorities said this is expected to reduce procedural delays and improve operational efficiency at border crossings.
The system will introduce end-to-end digital workflows for both cargo and passenger processing. These include slot booking, online payments, cargo tracking and single-window clearances. LPMS has also been integrated with key national digital platforms such as ICEGATE, the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) and the motor vehicle ecosystem to enable seamless data exchange and interoperability.
The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), a statutory body under the Department of Border Management in the Ministry of Home Affairs, is responsible for developing and managing land ports across the country's international borders. At present, LPAI operates 15 land ports connecting India with Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
In the Northeast, LPAI manages land ports at Dawki in Meghalaya; Sutarkandi, Golakganj and Mankachar in Assam; Agartala, Srimantapur and Sabroom in Tripura; and Moreh in Manipur. Officials said the LPMS is expected to improve trade facilitation, border connectivity and administrative efficiency across these strategically important gateways.
