An Election Commission of India delegation reviewed the progress of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bishnupur and visited relief camps and polling stations in Thanga and Karang.
Bishnupur, June 26: A delegation from the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday reviewed the progress of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of the Photo Electoral Roll in Bishnupur district and visited relief camps and polling stations to assess field-level implementation of the exercise.
The delegation was led by Deputy Director P. Pawan and included Devansh Tiwari, Social Media Executive of the Election Commission of India.
The team held a review meeting with District Election Officer (DEO) and Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, along with the district's Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), to assess the status of the revision process.
During the meeting, the DEO presented a detailed report outlining the progress of SIR-2026 across the district. The presentation covered the district's demographic profile, preparatory activities undertaken before the commencement of the revision, training programmes conducted for election personnel, printing and distribution of Enumeration Forms, the ongoing house-to-house enumeration process, rationalisation of polling stations and other measures taken to facilitate the revision exercise.
Reviewing the implementation of the Special Intensive Revision, Deputy Director P. Pawan appreciated the efforts made by the district administration in carrying out the electoral roll revision.
He emphasised the importance of maintaining proper documentation of every stage of the exercise to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the revision process.
Pawan also highlighted the need for a strong response mechanism to counter misinformation related to the Special Intensive Revision. He advised election officials to remain vigilant and make every effort to address misleading information promptly so that the accuracy, transparency and credibility of the electoral roll revision are maintained.
Following the review meeting, the ECI delegation, accompanied by the Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) of the Moirang and Thanga Assembly Constituencies, undertook field visits to monitor the progress of the exercise on the ground.
The delegation visited the Chingu Thangjing Guest House Relief Camp at Moirang, where members interacted with internally displaced persons (IDPs) regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision and the electoral roll updating process.
The officials also visited polling stations located in Thanga and Karang to review field-level implementation of the revision exercise.
During the inspection, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) briefed the delegation on the work being carried out in their respective polling areas, particularly the progress achieved during the enumeration phase and the responsibilities assigned to them under the Special Intensive Revision programme.
The visit formed part of the Election Commission's ongoing review of the Special Intensive Revision-2026 to monitor implementation, ensure procedural compliance and strengthen the accuracy of the Photo Electoral Roll ahead of future electoral exercises.
