Guwahati, June 15: Two Indian airports operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) have been included in the Prix Versailles World’s Most Beautiful Airports List 2026, marking the first time Indian airports have featured in the prestigious global recognition.

The honour has been awarded to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport and Terminal 2 of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. The recognition acknowledges excellence in architecture, sustainability, innovation, cultural identity and passenger experience.

Presented annually at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris since 2015, the Prix Versailles is regarded as one of the world's leading awards in architecture and design. The award recognises newly launched airports and terminals that combine architectural distinction with functionality and sustainability.

Alongside the two Indian airports, the 2026 list also includes airports in Guangzhou, Frankfurt am Main, Kandal Stueng, Pittsburgh and San Diego.

Navi Mumbai International Airport's Terminal 1 was recognised for its lotus-inspired architectural design, integration of technology and art, and its vision of serving as a modern gateway reflecting India's global aspirations.

Meanwhile, Terminal 2 of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport was acknowledged for its design inspired by the region's ecological richness and indigenous heritage. Situated at a strategic crossroads between South and Southeast Asia, the terminal serves as a key gateway to Northeast India.

The airport's architectural concept draws inspiration from the Bamboo Orchid and incorporates biophilic design principles that reflect the biodiversity of the Northeast while maintaining a sustainable and functional structure.

A spokesperson for Adani Airport Holdings Limited said the recognition reflects the company's commitment to creating world-class airport infrastructure and enhancing passenger experiences.

“We are honoured to see our airports recognised on a global platform and remain committed to delivering world-class experiences that position India among the leading aviation markets of the world. At Adani Airports, we see airports as important connectors of people and regions,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that the recognition validates the company's focus on combining architectural excellence with functionality, sustainability and operational efficiency.

According to Prix Versailles, the awards promote intelligent sustainability by encouraging projects where cultural identity complements environmental considerations. Later this year, three airports or terminals from the 2026 list will receive additional World Titles for overall excellence, interior design or exterior design.

The recognition is expected to further strengthen the profile of Guwahati Airport as a major aviation hub for Northeast India while highlighting the growing emphasis on design-led infrastructure development in the country's aviation sector.
