MGSF to launch cease work strike

Imphal, June 21: State government employees in Manipur are set to launch a two-day mass casual leave agitation on June 22 and 23, alleging that the government has failed to address several long-pending demands affecting employees and pensioners.

According to a press release issued by the Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF), the agitation is being jointly organized by the MGSF, the Manipur Secretariat Services Association, and the Manipur State Pensioners Union. The organizations have appealed to all state government employees to extend their support to the movement.

The employee bodies stated that the protest has become necessary due to the government's continued non-consideration of what they described as legitimate demands. Among the key issues raised is the demand to increase the retirement age of state government employees from 60 years to 62 years.

The organizations are also seeking the release of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) at par with Central government employees. Other demands include the restoration of Saturdays as government holidays by withdrawing the order that cancelled them and the constitution of a State Pay Commission to facilitate implementation of the recommendations of the forthcoming 8th Central Pay Commission.

In addition, the employee bodies have demanded the abolition of the National Pension System (NPS) and Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) and the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for state government employees. They have also called for an end to the re-engagement of retired personnel, a halt to contractual appointments against sanctioned posts, and the regularization of contractual, casual, and muster roll employees.

The organizations urged employees across departments to participate in the agitation and press for early fulfillment of their demands.
