NIA Special Court Inauguation

Imphal, June 8: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday inaugurated the Exclusive Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) at the Thoubal District Court Complex in Khangabok, marking the establishment of the first dedicated NIA court in Manipur.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the opening of the Special Court represents an important step in strengthening the state's justice delivery system. He expressed confidence that the court would reinforce the judicial framework and help ensure timely access to justice.

Referring to the law and order challenges facing the state, Khemchand Singh said litigants involved in NIA-related cases had previously been required to approach courts outside Manipur. With the establishment of the Special Court in Thoubal, such cases can now be handled within the state, making legal processes more accessible to the people.

He said the court would also reduce the financial burden and inconvenience faced by individuals seeking legal remedies in NIA cases.

Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur Justice M. Sundar described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to strengthen judicial institutions in the state. He said the establishment of the NIA Court should be viewed as part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing Manipur’s judicial infrastructure.

The inauguration programme was jointly organised by the Law and Legislative Affairs Department of the Government of Manipur and the High Court of Manipur.

Among those present were Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Justice A. Guneshwar Sharma, Justice A. Bimol Singh, Khangabok MLA Surjakumar Okram, Principal Secretary (Law) Arun Kumar Sinha, Commissioner (Home) N. Ashok Kumar, members of the Thoubal and Kakching District Bar Associations, advocates and officials of the High Court of Manipur.

The Special Court is expected to facilitate the hearing of NIA-related cases within Manipur and improve access to judicial proceedings for litigants and legal practitioners in the state.
