PM Modi's 12-Year Tenure Brought Major Gains for Manipur, Says CM Khemchand

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh highlighted key achievements in Manipur under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 12-year tenure, citing major development initiatives.

Imphal, June 14: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for bringing significant development to Manipur over the past 12 years, highlighting achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, sports, connectivity and social welfare.

Addressing a press conference at the Durbar Hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat in Imphal as part of the celebration of "12 Years of Trust, Progress and Welfare" of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government, the Chief Minister said India has witnessed progress across various sectors under the Prime Minister's guidance. He added that Manipur has particularly benefitted from several key initiatives that have contributed to the state's growth and development.

Khemchand Singh noted that Narendra Modi has become the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India and said the country's development trajectory during the past 12 years reflects the impact of his leadership.

Highlighting developments in the sports sector, the Chief Minister said the establishment of the National Sports University in Manipur was a landmark achievement. He said the institution, the first of its kind in the country, was set up under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi in recognition of the sporting talent and achievements of athletes from the state.

On the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur, Khemchand Singh said a long-standing demand of the people was fulfilled when the NDA government extended the ILP regime to the state on December 9, 2019.

The Chief Minister also referred to the commissioning of INS Imphal, describing it as a proud moment for the people of the state. The stealth guided missile destroyer, one of the most advanced warships in the Indian Navy, was named after the capital city of Manipur.

Speaking on infrastructure development, Khemchand Singh said a major milestone was achieved with the establishment of a medical college in Churachandpur district, marking the first time that a medical college was set up in a hill district of Manipur.

He further informed that the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal railway project is targeted for completion by 2028. According to the Chief Minister, the railway link will connect the state capital with the national rail network and is expected to provide a boost to trade, transportation and economic activities.

Khemchand Singh also said the construction of the new integrated terminal at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport is progressing and is expected to be completed soon. The project is expected to enhance passenger facilities and improve air connectivity for the state.

During the briefing, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho of the Naga People's Front highlighted India's progress in climate action. He stated that the country achieved its emissions intensity reduction target of 33 to 35 per cent from 2005 levels eleven years ahead of schedule, adding that reductions have already exceeded 36 per cent.

Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border is being carried out on a war footing as part of efforts to strengthen border management and security.

Tourism Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh of the National People's Party said the Government of India renamed Mount Harriet in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as Mount Manipur in October 2021 in honour of the Manipuri freedom fighters associated with the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891.

The press conference was also attended by MLAs Tongbram Robindro Singh, S. Premchandra Singh and Thongam Shanti Singh.
