Maligaon, June 13: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) detected 19 cases during operations conducted across its jurisdiction on June 9 and 10, leading to the recovery of narcotics, illicit liquor and stolen mobile phones collectively valued at more than Rs 62.45 lakh.

According to an official statement, the operations were carried out at railway stations and aboard trains across Assam, Bihar, Tripura, Nagaland and West Bengal as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen railway security and passenger safety.

The RPF recovered 12.666 kg of ganja valued at over Rs 6.33 lakh, 279.21 grams of brown sugar worth more than Rs 55.84 lakh and 155 bottles of illicit liquor estimated at over Rs 28,000. In addition, three stolen mobile phones worth around Rs 45,000 were recovered.

The operations also resulted in the apprehension of seven offenders and the rescue of eight minors, including five boys and three girls. The rescued children were handed over to the appropriate authorities for further care and rehabilitation in accordance with established procedures.

One of the major successes reported during the period was a joint anti-narcotics operation at Badarpur Railway Station. Acting in coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB), RPF personnel apprehended an individual and seized 279.21 grams of brown sugar valued at approximately Rs 55.84 lakh.

The accused was subsequently handed over to the GRP for further investigation and legal action under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Apart from enforcement activities, RPF personnel also extended assistance to passengers facing medical emergencies. Three passengers at New Jalpaiguri, Araria and Tinsukia railway stations received timely medical support after RPF teams coordinated with railway medical staff and local healthcare facilities.

The Northeast Frontier Railway said the successful operations reflect the RPF’s continued focus on combating crime, preventing drug trafficking, protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring passenger welfare across the railway network.

Officials stated that such coordinated operations will continue to strengthen security measures and contribute to a safer travel environment for railway passengers throughout the NFR zone.
