Manipur Police Urges Public to Use ERSS-112

Imphal, July 2: The Manipur Police has appealed to the public to use the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112) for immediate assistance during emergencies, saying the integrated platform has been strengthened to provide prompt, coordinated and accessible emergency services through a single emergency number.

According to a press release issued by Deputy Inspector General of Police M. Pradip Singh, IPS, the strengthened ERSS-112 has been implemented in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court of India in W.P. (C) No. 726 of 2024 and forms part of the Government of India's initiative to establish a unified emergency response system.

The police said ERSS-112 integrates multiple emergency services under a single platform, enabling faster coordination among various emergency service providers.

Through the emergency number 112, citizens can access Police Emergency Services (100), Fire and Emergency Services (101), NHM Referral Transport and Ambulance Services (102), Women Helpline (181), Child Helpline (1098), State Disaster Response (1017), and Transport Department SOS and Vehicle Panic Button services.

The press release stated that the system offers several advantages, including a single emergency number for multiple services, round-the-clock emergency response, improved coordination among police, fire, health and other agencies, quicker identification and routing of emergency calls, technology-enabled call management, enhanced inter-agency coordination and an integrated emergency response mechanism to improve public safety.

The police have advised citizens to dial 112 in cases of crime or law and order incidents, fire emergencies, medical emergencies requiring ambulance services, emergencies involving women or children, road accidents, disaster-related incidents, or any other situation requiring immediate assistance.

According to the statement, all emergency calls received through 112 are processed by the State Emergency Response Centre (SERC) and promptly coordinated with the concerned departments to ensure a timely response.

The press release further stated that Police Emergency (100), Women Helpline (181), Child Helpline (1098), State Disaster Response (1017), and the Transport Department's SOS and Vehicle Panic Button services have already been integrated with ERSS-112 and are operational.

Technical integration of Fire and Emergency Services (101) and NHM Referral Transport Service (102) has also been approved, while operational integration and testing are currently in progress.

The police also informed that a proposal has been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs seeking the allocation of 104 Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs), noting that Manipur currently has no dedicated ERSS fleet.

In addition, public awareness initiatives have been prepared to promote the use of the unified emergency number 112 and to inform citizens about the services that are already operational as well as those currently under integration.
