Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh met Union ministers Amit Shah and Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi, discussing state issues, development and next year’s Assembly polls.
New Delhi, August 26: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh that the Central government will fulfil the aspirations of the people of the state, during a meeting between the two leaders in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Khemchand met Shah at the Union Home Minister’s official residence around 3 pm and raised a range of issues concerning Manipur. Shah gave a patient hearing to the matters raised by the Chief Minister and assured him of continued support from the Centre.
Shah is scheduled to visit Manipur in the first week of October, during which he will lay the foundation stone of a new medical college in Senapati district and review other developmental projects in the state.
The decision to establish the medical college in Senapati was recently taken by the Manipur Cabinet. The district is predominantly inhabited by the Naga community.
Khemchand stated that Shah had agreed to lay the foundation stone of the new institution during his October visit. The proposed medical college is expected to form part of the state government’s development initiatives in the district.
During the meeting, Shah also appreciated the Manipur government for facilitating the resumption of the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus service and ensuring free movement along National Highway-2.

In a post on X, Khemchand stated that Shah assured him that the Central government would fulfil the “wishes and aspirations” of the people of Manipur. The Chief Minister also invited the Home Minister to visit the state, which Shah agreed to do in the first week of October.
According to Khemchand, Shah will lay the foundation stone of the new Senapati Medical College during the visit and review other developmental projects in the state.
The Chief Minister also stated that Shah gave a patient hearing to issues concerning Manipur and appreciated the state government’s efforts in resuming the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus service and ensuring free movement along National Highway-2.
Earlier, the Chief Minister met Union Minister of Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju at his official residence in New Delhi. The two leaders discussed a range of issues concerning Manipur, including development and welfare measures for minority communities in the state.
Khemchand sought the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs’ assistance for various development and welfare projects aimed at minority communities. The two leaders also discussed matters related to the Manipur Assembly elections scheduled for early next year.

Rijiju assured the Chief Minister that his ministry would extend all possible assistance to the state. The Union minister, who is from Arunachal Pradesh, also has a longstanding connection with Manipur, according to the statement.
The meetings in New Delhi come as the Manipur government continues discussions with the Centre on development, infrastructure and other issues concerning the state.
Cabinet Approves 100-Seat Government Medical College in Senapati
The Manipur Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, gave in-principle approval on August 11 for setting up a Government Medical College in Senapati district. The proposed institution will have an annual intake of 100 MBBS students.
As part of the plan, the Cabinet also approved the upgrading of Senapati District Hospital to meet the requirements of the proposed medical college. The decision provides for the expansion of medical education and related healthcare infrastructure in the district.
The approval has been welcomed by organisations in Senapati, including the Naga People’s Front and Naga People’s Organisation, which described the medical college as a long-standing aspiration of the district.
