Imphal–Dimapur–Guwahati bus service resumes after nearly three years, with 125 passengers travelling as Manipur restores inter-State connectivity.
Imphal, August 21: Public transport services on the Imphal–Dimapur–Guwahati route resumed on Friday after a gap of nearly three years, with 125 passengers travelling in two buses and five wingers as the Manipur Government continued efforts to restore normal movement and inter-State connectivity.
The service had remained suspended since the unprecedented crisis that began in Manipur in 2023. Its resumption marks the reopening of an important road link connecting the state capital with Dimapur in Nagaland and Guwahati in Assam.
The buses and wingers crossed Kangpokpi and Senapati districts before proceeding towards Nagaland on their way to Guwahati.
The return of the service was welcomed by passengers, who described the journey as a positive step towards restoring normal life and movement between communities.

Kiyam Kumarjit Singh of Thoubal district expressed gratitude to the State Government for restarting the service. He hoped the journey would contribute to peace and harmony among communities in Manipur.
“Let us all forgive and forget the past,” Singh said, adding that the resumption of the service should help people move forward from the difficulties of the past.
Another passenger, Nivedita from Khundrakpam village in Imphal East district, also expressed hope that the journey would contribute to peace in the state and offered her blessings for the government’s initiative.
The reopening of the route also carries significance for people travelling between Manipur, Nagaland and Assam, particularly those dependent on public transport for inter-State travel.
The development follows an announcement made by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh during his visit to Kangpokpi district on August 8. The Chief Minister, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen, had announced that the National Highways would be reopened for free movement of people from all communities.
During the same visit, the Chief Minister had also announced that the Imphal–Dimapur–Guwahati bus service would resume soon.
Friday’s service marks the implementation of that announcement, restoring a key public transport connection that had remained disrupted for nearly three years.
The resumption comes as the State Government continues measures aimed at restoring public movement and normalcy following the prolonged crisis in Manipur.
