Rajya Sabha MP A. Sarda Devi has announced plans to develop Keijanpham at Wangoo Nappa Ching in Kakching as a historical site using MPLADS funds.
Kakching, August 8: Rajya Sabha MP Adhikarimayum Sarda Devi has announced that Keijanpham at Wangoo Nappa Ching in Kakching district will be developed as a historical site, with funding proposed under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).
Sarda Devi made the announcement during her visit to Keijanpham, where she conducted a physical inspection of the site associated with the history of Manipur. The visit was her first official tour after being elected to the Rajya Sabha from Manipur.
According to the account presented during the programme, Keijanpham is mentioned in Cheitharol Kumbaba, the royal chronicle of Manipur. The site is associated with Maharaj Budhachandra, who is recorded as having visited the location in 1945 during his reign from 1941 to 1949 to construct a tiger trap and capture a tiger.
Sarda Devi said efforts were being made to allocate funds from her MPLADS allocation for the development of Keijanpham. She described the project as the first work to be taken up under her MP Local Area Development Fund.
She also said that because a Rajya Sabha MP represents the entire state rather than a single constituency, the site may not be fully developed through MPLADS funds alone. Efforts would therefore also be made to seek government assistance for the project.
Sarda Devi said that a properly developed historical site could become a tourist destination and bring economic and other benefits to people in the surrounding area.
The MP also stressed the importance of studying and preserving Manipur's history. She said elected representatives and social workers should understand the state's history to help preserve its heritage, protect its indigenous people and safeguard the integrity of Manipur.
The inspection and public reception programme were attended by Kakching Deputy Commissioner Angeline Renita R, SDO Waikhong Khwairakpam Tompok, BJP Manipur Pradesh leaders, BJP Kakching District President Kshetrimayum Indubala, BJP Sugnu Mandal President M. Nabachandra, social worker Mayanglambam Binod and others.
Mayanglambam Binod, who contested the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election as the BJP candidate from Sugnu, welcomed the announcement. He expressed appreciation to Sarda Devi for visiting the site and deciding to take up its development.
Binod also raised concerns over what he described as shortcomings in Sugnu constituency, particularly in education, healthcare and sports. He said the constituency required greater development and that many young people were seeking change.
During the programme, Sarda Devi also spoke about her role in Parliament, stating that she had submitted questions concerning issues affecting the people of Manipur during the ongoing session. She said she would raise the state's requirements in Parliament and continue conveying the concerns and interests of the people to the Government of India.
