Manipur Cabinet approves Senapati medical college, higher sports incentives, press club land, vehicle penalty relief and September Assembly session.
Imphal, August 11: The Manipur Cabinet on Tuesday approved several measures covering healthcare, sports, transport, media infrastructure and the functioning of the State legislature, including in-principle approval for a Government Medical College at Senapati with an annual intake of 100 MBBS students.
The decisions were taken during a Cabinet meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Mantripukhri on August 11.
The Cabinet gave in-principle approval for setting up a Government Medical College at Senapati.
The proposed medical college will have an annual intake capacity of 100 MBBS students. The existing district hospital will also be upgraded to meet the requirements for functioning as a medical college.
The Cabinet approved an enhancement of cash incentives for medallists and participants from Manipur in the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
The revised incentives will also cover athletes from Manipur who participated in the 23rd Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2026.
For the Commonwealth Games, the incentive amounts have been fixed at Rs 20 lakh for gold medallists, Rs 15 lakh for silver medallists, Rs 10 lakh for bronze medallists and Rs 4 lakh for participants.
The Cabinet approved the appointment by promotion of L. Shushila Devi to the newly created post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sports).
It also approved the appointment of Olympian and Arjuna Awardee K. Chinglensana Singh as Deputy Director (Sports Promotion) in the Youth Affairs and Sports Department.
The Cabinet approved the formation of a Section 8 Government Company to mobilise and utilise Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for the promotion and development of sports in Manipur.
The proposed company will be named the Manipur Sports Development Foundation.
Its composition will include government officials as well as non-official members drawn from fields including sports, finance and sports science.
As a one-time measure, the Cabinet approved a reduction in the penalty imposed for delays in renewing vehicle fitness certificates for the period from February 1, 2020, to December 31, 2025.
The penalty has been reduced from the existing Rs 50 per day to Rs 10 per day for the specified period.
The Cabinet approved allotment of land at Kha Bishnupur to the All Bishnupur District Working Journalists for construction of an office building for the Press Club.
The Cabinet decided that September 2, 2026, will be the date for making a recommendation to the Governor of Manipur to summon the Eighth Session of the Twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The Cabinet decisions cover measures ranging from expansion of medical education and sports development to relief in vehicle-related penalties and support for media infrastructure.
