Imphal, August 1: A faculty member of Manipur University has brought international recognition to the institution after receiving the Best Oral Presentation Award at the Thailand National Sports University International Conference 2026, held from July 29 to 31 in Thailand.

Dr. L. Santosh Singh, Professor in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science and Programme Coordinator of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell at Manipur University, received the honour for his research presentation titled "Enhancing Physiological Variables and Physical Performance of Football Players: Effect of High-Intensity Interval Training."

The international conference was organised by the Thailand National Sports University in collaboration with the Thai Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation and the Sports Science Society of Thailand. This year's conference was held under the theme, "The Global Impact of Digital Transformation in Sports and Human Competency: Education, Research, Wellness, and Sustainability."

Dr. Santosh Singh's award-winning research examined how high-intensity interval training (HIIT) influences physiological parameters and improves the physical performance of football players. The study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting scientific training methods and performance-based interventions in modern sports.

The research also highlights the increasing role of sports science in athlete development by integrating exercise physiology, structured training programmes and evidence-based performance assessment.

The recognition marks a significant achievement for Manipur University and reflects its continued contribution to research in physical education, sports science and human performance. It also strengthens the University's presence in international academic forums and showcases the quality of research being undertaken by its faculty members.

For Manipur, a state with a strong sporting tradition and a history of producing national and international athletes, the achievement is expected to encourage greater emphasis on scientific research in sports training and athlete development.

University officials said the recognition would further inspire faculty members and researchers to engage in collaborative international research and contribute to innovations in sports science, wellness and physical education.

The award adds to Manipur University's growing academic profile and reinforces its commitment to advancing research excellence and global academic engagement.
