Manipur Cabinet approves a 70-bed dialysis centre at Keirao and revised compensation for landowners affected by power transmission projects.
Imphal, Sept. 24: The Manipur Cabinet has approved the establishment of a 70-bed Manipur State Dialysis Centre at the State TB Hospital, Keirao, to expand access to dialysis services for patients requiring regular treatment.
The decision was announced by MLA Dr Sapam Ranjan, spokesperson for the Government of Manipur, during a press briefing at the Conference Hall of the Minister’s Block, Secretariat, Imphal, on Wednesday.
The proposed centre will operate under the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and provide specialised dialysis services to patients who require treatment at regular intervals. According to Dr Sapam Ranjan, the facility is intended to reduce the difficulties faced by patients who currently have to wait for long periods to receive dialysis.
The centre will operate under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). Beneficiaries covered under the Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) scheme will receive dialysis treatment free of cost.
Dr Sapam Ranjan said the Cabinet approved the centre in view of the increasing demand for dialysis services in the state. While dialysis facilities are already available at government hospitals, their existing capacity is not sufficient to meet the requirement, he said.
The new 70-bed facility is expected to add to the state's existing dialysis infrastructure and improve access for patients requiring regular treatment.
He also said that officials, engineers and members of the medical team had inspected the proposed site and completed the preliminary assessment required for setting up the centre.
In another decision, the State Cabinet approved compensation for landowners affected by power transmission lines in accordance with the revised Right of Way (RoW) compensation framework of the Government of India.
Dr Sapam Ranjan said that for externally aided projects and deposit works, including projects funded by the World Bank and Asian Development Bank as well as railway-related works, landowners will receive compensation equivalent to 200 percent of the land value for the area occupied by a transmission tower base.
For land falling within the transmission corridor, compensation will be provided at 30 percent of the land value.
For State-funded projects, compensation will be 100 percent of the land value for the area occupied by the tower base, while land falling within the transmission corridor will attract compensation at 30 percent of its value.
During the briefing, Dr Sapam Ranjan also congratulated weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu for winning the silver medal in the women's 49 kg category at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
He said Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, along with his Cabinet colleagues, had interacted with and congratulated Mirabai Chanu on the achievement.
Dr Sapam Ranjan said her performance had brought pride and joy to Manipur and the country.
MLA Th. Radheshyam Singh, spokesperson for the Government of Manipur, was also present at the press briefing.
