Grenade Explodes at Manipur MLA K Meghachandra’s Residence in Yairipok in Thoubal District

Imphal, Sept 3: A bomb suspected to be a hand grenade was lobbed at the residence of Wangkhem MLA K. Meghachandra Singh at Yairipok Bishnunaha on Thursday night, triggering an explosion inside the residential gate. Meghachandra is the leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 8.15 pm, when unidentified miscreants allegedly took advantage of darkness to throw the explosive into the compound of the Congress MLA’s residence.

According to ground report, the residence was being guarded by personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) when the explosion took place. No major injuries or casualties have been reported so far in connection with the blast.

The identity of those responsible for the attack remains unknown. The motive behind the bombing has also not been established.

The explosive has been suspected to be a hand grenade, though its exact nature has not been officially confirmed.

Further details, including the extent of damage caused by the explosion and any investigation or security response following the incident, were not immediately available.

Meanwhile, according to a press statement issued by Ibochouba Thounaojam, PRO to K. Meghachandra Singh, the blast occurred at around 8.15 pm near the gate of the residence of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader at Bishnunaha, Yairipok.

The statement described the incident as an apparent explosive attack by an unidentified miscreant. The identity of the perpetrator and the motive behind the incident have not yet been established.

Police reached the spot immediately following the explosion and conducted a search operation, the statement added. Further details are awaited.

The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in Manipur, where attacks involving explosives and other forms of violence have continued to draw concern.
