A man identified as Waikhom Athoi was shot dead by unidentified persons on Kangla Laiching Road in Imphal East early Friday morning.
Imphal, Sept 4: A man was shot dead by unidentified persons on Kangla Laiching Road near the junction of Kangla Shangomshang and Angom Leikai under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district early Friday morning.
Police identified the deceased as Waikhom Athoi, son of W Shital of Khabam Mayai Leikai. He reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Morning walkers discovered Athoi’s body at around 4:30 am and alerted the police. Police personnel reached the site, recovered the body and deposited it at the JNIMS mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Three live 9mm rounds and one empty shell were subsequently recovered from near the incident site, police stated.
The identity of the assailants and the motive behind the killing remained unknown at the time of reporting.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
