Manipur Cabinet approves recruitment to 2,720 police posts and land acquisition for a 500-metre approach road to Khongsang Railway Station.
Imphal, Sept. 10: The Manipur Cabinet on Thursday approved the filling up of 2,720 vacancies in the state police across various cadres and cleared land acquisition for an approach road to Khongsang Railway Station, according to a government press note.
The decisions cover police recruitment, including posts ranging from Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors to Constables, Havildars, Riflemen and Followers, as well as technical and ministerial positions.
The Cabinet approved recruitment to a total of 2,720 vacant posts in Manipur Police. The vacancies include Sub-Inspector, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Constable, Havildar, Rifleman and Follower positions.
The recruitment will also cover technical and ministerial posts, including Telecom, Nursing, Pharmacist, Lower Division Clerk and Constable Driver positions.
According to the government, the decision is aimed at addressing a long-standing shortage of personnel in several police cadres. The press note stated that recruitment to some of these cadres has not taken place since 2018.
The Cabinet decision comes amid what the government described as an acute requirement for additional law-and-order personnel, while also seeking to expand employment opportunities for educated youth in the state.
To speed up the recruitment process, the Cabinet approved exemption from recruitment through the Manipur Public Service Commission for Sub-Inspector and Jemadar-level posts. Recruitment to these positions will instead be carried out departmentally.
Similarly, Assistant Sub-Inspector and other remaining posts will be recruited departmentally after exemption from the process through the Manipur Staff Selection Commission.
The Cabinet also approved a one-time relaxation of the upper age limit for candidates who had already applied under earlier recruitment notifications.
The vacancies will be filled according to the 200-point roster. The government clarified that the 20% horizontal reservation for Ex-Agniveers and the 5% reservation for meritorious sportspersons will be excluded from the present roster and notified separately.
The Cabinet did not provide a recruitment schedule in the press note.
The Cabinet also approved the assessment report prepared by the Direct Purchase Committee for acquiring land required for construction of an approach road-cum-goods circulation area at Khongsang Railway Station.
The road will connect the railway station to National Highway-37 (NH-37) and will involve the acquisition of land, standing crops and trees, as well as structures, through the direct purchase mode.
The proposed stretch is approximately 500 metres long.
The government had earlier declared the work an emergent requirement to facilitate the movement of goods-laden trucks from the railway station.
According to the press note, the alternative route is intended to help ensure uninterrupted movement of goods and essential commodities to the public.
The two Cabinet decisions cover both police manpower and transport infrastructure, with the government focusing on filling long-pending vacancies in the police force and improving road connectivity to the railway station at Khongsang.
