Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand calls for transparent regularisation of contractual healthcare staff and inaugurates several projects and services at JNIMS.
Imphal, Sept. 14: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday called for an end to bribery in the regularisation of contractual employees, saying genuine service, dedication and contribution should form the basis for considering legitimate claims.
The Chief Minister made the remarks while inaugurating, launching and laying foundation stones for a series of projects at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat.
Khemchand expressed concern over reports of alleged bribery linked to the regularisation of nurses. He noted that the matter had also appeared in the media and resulted in the registration of an FIR.
He said employees who had served the healthcare sector with dedication, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, should not resort to corrupt practices to secure regularisation.

According to the Chief Minister, more than 200 nurses were appointed on a contractual basis in the state in response to increased healthcare requirements, particularly during the pandemic.
He urged nurses and other contractual employees to present their service records and contributions to the government through proper and transparent channels.
The government, he said, would support employees who perform their duties with honesty, dedication and dignity. Legitimate claims relating to regularisation would be considered through due process, he added.
Khemchand also pointed to economic constraints faced by the state, saying recruitment in government departments had for some time been carried out through contractual arrangements.
However, he made clear that seeking regularisation through bribery should end immediately.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the responsibilities shouldered by doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also commended the Health Department for its work in strengthening the state's healthcare sector over the past four months.
Projects inaugurated and launched at JNIMS
Following the address, the Chief Minister inaugurated and launched several facilities and systems at JNIMS.
These included a Multipurpose Gym established at a cost of Rs. 19 lakh and an Autoclave Machine at the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), procured at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh.
A C-arm Digital R90 Digital Radiology and Fluoroscopy System, costing approximately Rs. 4 crore, was also inaugurated.
The institute also introduced the Cardio Hospital Management Information System under the e-Gov Foundation, JNIMS-EMS (Employee Management System) and SBI Collect.
A Liquid Medical Oxygen Plant was launched under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS-OTRI).
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a College of Nursing at JNIMS under NESIDS (OTRI) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
Other facilities and services inaugurated or launched included an AMRIT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment) Pharmacy and a Unified Health Portal for health-related services.
Two Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) were also launched to provide healthcare services to vulnerable and remote populations in Saikul and Jiribam.
The programme was attended by Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur, Commissioner (Health and Family Welfare) Sumant Singh, JNIMS Director Somorjit Salam, faculty members, staff and students of the institute, along with other officials and invitees.
