Manipur orders inspections of private hospital ICUs seeking accreditation and directs all facilities to secure government certification before December 1, 2026.
Imphal, Sept 4: The Manipur government has ordered separate inspection visits to private hospitals seeking to open and register Intensive Care Unit (ICU) services, as part of the state’s ongoing process to standardise and regulate ICU facilities.
The Directorate of Health Services issued the order on September 2, directing all private hospitals seeking accreditation for their ICU services to submit applications to the Directorate on or before September 20, 2026.
According to the order, the inspections will be conducted in accordance with the government’s July 1, 2026 Office Memorandum and subsequent orders concerning accreditation and standardisation of ICU services in the state.
The inspection team in each district will comprise representatives from the State ICU Coordination Committee, the ICU Implementation Unit and the concerned District ICU Inspection Committee. The inspection will generally be led by the Chairman or in-charge of the State ICU Coordination Unit, as designated by the competent authority.
The inspection teams will assess private hospital ICUs against prescribed standards covering infrastructure, equipment, manpower and oxygen facilities, among other requirements.
The assessment will also examine the availability of essential drugs and the operational readiness of the ICU. The teams will submit their reports to the State ICU Coordination Committee for consideration and further necessary action.
Private hospitals have been directed to extend full cooperation to the inspection teams and provide all relevant records, documents and facilities required during the assessment.
The Health Services Directorate has also set a firm deadline for compliance.
From December 1, 2026, no ICU will be permitted to function without the requisite government permission and certification or accreditation, the order stated.
The order, issued by Director of Health Services Dr N. Hemantakumar Singh, came into force with immediate effect.
