Manipur University inaugurated Hindi Pakhwada 2026 with a workshop on AI and Hindi, introducing employees to technology-based tools for official Hindi work.
Imphal, Sept 4: Manipur University inaugurated Hindi Pakhwada 2026 on September 3 with a one-day workshop on “Artificial Intelligence and Hindi”, focusing on the use of modern technology to facilitate Hindi-language work in university offices.
The programme was organised by the Official Language Cell at the Committee Room of the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat, Manipur University.
Addressing the inaugural session, Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor in-charge and Chairman of the University’s Official Language Implementation Committee, encouraged employees to incorporate Hindi into their routine office work. He urged staff to view the language beyond its status as an official requirement and contribute to its wider use with the help of modern technology.
Prof. Hemakumar also conveyed his wishes for the successful conduct of Hindi Pakhwada 2026.
Dr. Binita Akoijam, Assistant Director of the Official Language Cell, in her welcome address, explained that the workshop was intended to provide practical assistance to employees who face difficulties while carrying out official work in Hindi.
She noted that artificial intelligence could help address some of these challenges and improve employees’ ability to use Hindi in workplace communication and documentation.
Dr. Binita also highlighted the role of the Official Language Cell in equipping employees with skills for Hindi noting and drafting. She stressed that the effective use of Hindi across the University would require participation from staff in different offices and not only members of the Official Language Cell.
She further outlined the competitions planned as part of Hindi Pakhwada, stating that the activities would be organised in a manner that would minimise disruption to regular university work. She also noted that efforts would be made to provide Hindi training opportunities to employees who had not yet received training, including through online programmes where required.
The technical session was conducted by Dr. Tilokchand Irengbam, Programmer, Manipur University, who served as the resource person for the workshop on “AI and Hindi”.
During the session, he introduced participants to various AI-based language platforms and projects, including Bhashini, Kanthasth, Gyan Bharatam and Adi Vaani.
According to the programme organisers, these AI initiatives involve collaborative efforts between the Department of Official Language under the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Registrar, attended the programme along with Prof. Laishram Rajendra Singh, Finance Officer; Anisul Alam, Assistant Registrar (Senior Scale); Dr. Memori Sagolsem, Librarian (i/c); Dr. Sakila Nongmeikapam, Public Relations Officer; other university officials; members of the Official Language Implementation Committee; teachers and staff.
Following the workshop, various competitions were conducted as part of Hindi Pakhwada 2026. These included recitation, extempore speech, dictation, handwriting and a Hindi efficiency test.
The inaugural programme concluded with a vote of thanks acknowledging the support of the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, resource person, participating officials, teachers, employees and members of the Official Language Cell.
