JNV Ukhrul-1 from Manipur has won the 27th National Youth Parliament Competition for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, securing the national top spot.
New Delhi, Sept. 10: PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ukhrul-1, Manipur, has emerged as the national winner of the 27th National Youth Parliament Competition for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for 2025-26.
The school, representing the Shillong Region, was awarded the prestigious Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Running Parliamentary Shield and trophy for securing first place at the national level. The awards were presented on Thursday at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament Library Building, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi.
Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju presided over the prize distribution ceremony and presented shields and prizes to the winning teams. He congratulated the JNV Ukhrul-1 team and the seven other regional winners for their performances in the competition.
The students of JNV Ukhrul-1 also presented a repeat performance of their Youth Parliament programme during the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Rijiju spoke about the importance of Parliament as an institution of democracy and the role of elected representatives in the country's parliamentary system. He also praised the work culture of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, saying it contributes to shaping the character of students.
Secretary of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Nikunja Bihari Dhal, congratulated the winning teams and acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry and other stakeholders involved in organising the programme.
Dhal said the Youth Parliament initiative gives students opportunities to develop their personality, critical thinking and teamwork skills.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Satya Prakash, in his welcome address, highlighted the role of principals, teachers and students in the development of the country. He referred to the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara and its relevance to preparing young people for the goal of a developed India by 2047.
The 27th National Youth Parliament Competition was conducted during 2025-26 among 100 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across eight regions of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has been organising Youth Parliament competitions for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for about three decades. The programme is designed to familiarise students with the practices and procedures of Parliament, along with techniques of discussion and debate.
The initiative also aims to develop students' self-confidence, leadership qualities, critical thinking and skills in effective public speaking. It provides students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country with a platform to participate in simulated parliamentary proceedings and debates.
Along with JNV Ukhrul-1, seven schools secured first place in their respective regions and received trophies and prizes at the ceremony.
The regional winners were PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kollam, Kerala, from the Hyderabad Region; PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Theog, Shimla, from the Chandigarh Region; PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Suratgarh, Sriganganagar, from the Jaipur Region; PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, from the Bhopal Region; PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Valsad, Gujarat, from the Pune Region; PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Purulia, West Bengal, from the Patna Region; and PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, from the Lucknow Region.
Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs Anil Kumar delivered the vote of thanks at the function and expressed gratitude to the guests, participating students, teachers, ministry officials and other stakeholders involved in the competition.
For Manipur, the national recognition places JNV Ukhrul-1 among the top-performing schools in the 27th edition of the Youth Parliament Competition and marks the school's success at a national-level student parliamentary platform.
