Shija Hospitals Imphal wins Battle of the Bays at COMET 2.0 in Lucknow, while its doctors earn recognition in teaching and research.
Imphal, Sept. 15: Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Imphal, secured the championship in the Battle of the Bays emergency medicine simulation competition at COMET 2.0 in Lucknow, bringing national recognition to Manipur’s emergency healthcare professionals.
The conclave, the Conclave of Medical Emergencies and Trauma (COMET) 2.0, was held from September 11 to 13 at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow.
A four-member team of residents from Shija Hospitals’ Department of Emergency Medicine — Dr Azhar Kamal Ansari, Dr Maibam Kushajit Singh, Dr Sanjay G Karlattimatt and Dr Muhammed Shadil KE — represented the institution in the two-day simulation competition.
The team competed against six teams from across India and emerged first, winning the championship along with a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
The competition tested participants on clinical decision-making, teamwork and their ability to respond to emergency situations. According to Shija Hospitals, the result reflects the department’s emphasis on simulation-based learning and preparedness for high-acuity clinical cases.
The institution also had an academic role at the conclave. Dr Sweta Khuraijam, Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, was invited as Guest Faculty and delivered a session titled “Paediatric Emergency Updates 2026.” The session focused on contemporary developments and evolving practices in paediatric emergency care.
COMET 2.0 brought together residents, undergraduate medical students, nursing professionals and paramedical personnel from different parts of the country. The programme featured national and international faculty and provided a platform for professional learning, collaboration and exchange of practices in emergency and trauma care.
Shija Hospitals also recorded recognition in academic paper presentations.
Dr Seram Rajshree Devi, Senior Resident in the Department of Emergency Medicine, presented a paper titled “Impact of Implementing a Stroke Pathway in the Emergency Department and Its Outcomes.”
Dr Azhar Kamal Ansari also presented his research and secured third prize in the paper presentation category, adding another achievement for the institution at the national-level conclave.
The performances at COMET 2.0 included competitive, teaching and research components, reflecting the department’s involvement in clinical training, academic work and simulation-based emergency medicine.
The recognition also places healthcare professionals from Manipur and the Northeast on a national platform in emergency medicine education and practice.
Shija Hospitals said it would continue its focus on emergency care, structured clinical training, simulation-based education, research and academic activities aimed at developing healthcare professionals equipped to handle complex and time-critical medical emergencies.
