RIMS Imphal celebrated its 55th Foundation Day, highlighting achievements in medical education, healthcare and research, including 4.26 lakh OPD visits.
Imphal, Sept. 14: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, celebrated its 55th Foundation Day on Monday at Jubilee Hall, bringing together faculty members, doctors, students, nursing and administrative staff and other members of the institute fraternity.
Rajya Sabha MP Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi attended the programme as the chief guest, while RIMS Director Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma presided over the function.
Former RIMS Medicine professor Prof. Th. Bhimo Singh, former Associate Professor of Otorhinolaryngology Dr. R.K. Bedajit Singh, Medical Superintendent Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Dean (Academics) Prof. L. Rajesh Singh and Chairman of the Reception Sub-Committee for the 55th Foundation Day celebration Prof. N. Romi Singh attended as guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Sharda Devi acknowledged RIMS's development and its contribution to medical education and healthcare. She stressed the importance of respectful relationships between doctors and patients and urged nurses to approach patients with kindness, sympathy and empathy.
She also called upon healthcare professionals to set aside ego and maintain dedication, humility and professionalism in their work.
RIMS Director Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, in his address, highlighted the institute's 54 years of service, along with its expansion in academics, healthcare and research.
He reported 4,26,637 outpatient department (OPD) visits and 1,31,365 casualty visits. The institute has also undertaken 76 research projects and produced 216 publications, according to the Director's report.
Sharma highlighted RIMS's status as an Institute of National Importance (INI), expansion of its faculty and the establishment of 11 super-speciality departments. He also referred to the institute's 300-acre Master Plan and ongoing efforts to expand its academic, healthcare and research capabilities.
As part of the Foundation Day programme, prizes were distributed to meritorious students in recognition of their academic performance.
Sharda Devi also released the RIMSSU annual magazine, Remedy, along with the Journal of the Medical Society.
The newly elected office-bearers of the Medical Society were introduced during the programme, marking the transition of the organisation's leadership.
The Foundation Day celebration commemorated RIMS's 55-year journey in medical education, patient care, research and service to society.
