Kuki CSOs Urge Nemcha to Resume Office in Imphal

Imphal, Oct. 16: A group of Kuki civil society organisations (CSOs) in Kangpokpi district has urged Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen to proceed to Imphal and regularly attend to her official responsibilities, saying her presence in the state capital is necessary for the effective discharge of her ministerial duties.

In a joint press statement issued from Kangpokpi on Friday, the organisations said they had met Kipgen and discussed issues relating to the relief and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs), public safety and security, and efforts to restore peace and harmony in the district and the state.

The CSOs said they had taken note of the Deputy Chief Minister’s submissions regarding the initiatives undertaken by her office to address these concerns and appreciated the efforts made in this regard.

After considering the issues discussed during the meeting and the responsibilities entrusted to Kipgen as Deputy Chief Minister, the organisations said they believed her presence in Imphal was necessary to enable her to perform her official duties effectively.

They urged her to attend to her ministerial responsibilities in the state capital and pursue matters concerning the welfare and interests of the people and the state.

The statement also called on the Deputy Chief Minister to continue working towards the safety, security, relief and rehabilitation of affected people while fulfilling her official obligations in Imphal.

The organisations maintained that her effective participation in the functioning of the state government was important for advancing these objectives.

They also assured Kipgen of their support and cooperation in the discharge of her responsibilities, stating that their position was guided by the broader public interest and the need for effective governance, constructive engagement, peace, security and development.

The joint statement was signed by Thangminlen Kipgen, president of Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills; Lunthang Haokip, working president of SAHILCA; Lamminlun Singsit, president of Thadou Inpi-SH; Nengboi Hmar, president of KWU-SH; and Thangkam Lupheng, president of Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai.

The organisations expressed hope that their appeal would be understood as a considered position on the Deputy Chief Minister’s official responsibilities and the need for her effective participation in the state government.
