October 10 Attacks

Imphal, Oct. 11: The Makui Village Authority and the Pongringlong Youth Club (PYC) have strongly condemned the alleged attacks on Naga villages in Manipur on October 10, demanding accountability for those responsible, enhanced security for vulnerable settlements and justice for the affected families.

In separate statements issued on Sunday, the two organisations condemned the reported killings, destruction of homes and community properties, and other acts of violence. They also appealed to the governments and concerned authorities to intervene and ensure the safety of villagers.

The Makui Village Authority expressed strong condemnation over the reported killing of four people, including two village guards and two civilians, during the violence on October 10.

According to the authority's statement, the deceased were identified as Machungamang Daimai of Thalon village and Ramningpou Gangmei of Luangchum village, both in Tamenglong district, along with Dibambou Ringkangmai and R. Ajinpou of Makui village.

The authority alleged that the attack was carried out by a combined force of KNF (P), KRA and KNF-B. These allegations could not be independently verified from the statements provided.

The statement also alleged that R. Ajinpou was beheaded and that his severed head was used as a shooting target. The authority described the alleged treatment of his remains as a grave violation of human dignity and customary practices.

It demanded the immediate and unconditional return of his head to allow his family and community to perform the final rites in accordance with their customs and traditions.

The authority also named Mathangambou Chawang of Kadi-2 and Nashon Pame of Impa village among those injured in the incident.

According to the statement, the remaining structures in Makui Chamriupiu, Makui Thebram, Makui Pipuram (Saramjao) and Makui Thanamba were completely burnt down. It further alleged that church properties, including keyboards and batteries, were looted, while three cows belonging to Makui Chamriupiu were slaughtered and stolen.

The authority recalled that Makui Chamriupiu had been burnt on September 21, 2026, and said villagers had returned to what remained of their ancestral settlement when the latest violence occurred.

Condemning the alleged attack, the authority appealed to the Government of India, the Government of Manipur and international human rights organisations to intervene and ensure accountability.

It said the failure to return Ajinpou's head would prolong the suffering of his family and community, stressing that the deceased must be accorded a dignified burial.

Separately, the Pongringlong Youth Club strongly condemned the reported armed attack on Pongringlong Rongmei Naga village on October 10, allegedly carried out by armed Kuki militants.

According to the PYC statement, more than 30 armed cadres approached the village from multiple directions, forcing the outnumbered village guards to retreat.

The organisation said 17 structures were set on fire, including 14 residential structures belonging to six families and three community buildings. Of these, 10 were reportedly reduced to ashes, while seven sustained damage.

The destruction affected homes, food reserves, household belongings and the livelihoods of the affected families, the youth club stated.

The PYC also expressed concern over what it described as a breakdown of neighbourly trust. It said neighbouring Kuki communities had historically depended on Pongringlong's land, forests, water and other natural resources, with access extended on humanitarian grounds.

The organisation said the alleged attack was particularly disturbing in view of that history of coexistence and called for the protection of the village and its residents.

The youth club said the latest incident followed reported gunfire on May 22, 2026, and the killing of Pongringlong Village Authority member Chunjanglung Panmei on June 8, 2026, which it attributed to Kuki militants.

It maintained that the village remained inadequately protected despite the earlier incidents.

The PYC demanded immediate security measures, an impartial investigation and accountability for those responsible. It also called for urgent relief, compensation and rehabilitation for families affected by the destruction.

Appealing to government authorities, concerned departments and civil society organisations, the club urged immediate intervention to prevent further violence and safeguard the village.

The organisation clarified that its condemnation was directed at those responsible for the attack and said the village's goodwill should not be mistaken for weakness.

Both organisations called for measures to protect affected communities and uphold the dignity and safety of residents. Their statements also underscored the urgent need to address the demands of families who have lost relatives, homes and essential belongings in the reported violence.
