Manipur Cabinet thanks Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 25 years of public service, citing his leadership and Centre-backed development, connectivity and infrastructure projects in Manipur.
Imphal, Oct. 6: The Manipur Cabinet has adopted a resolution expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 25 years of public service, with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh saying the State Government appreciated his attention to Manipur and the wider Northeast.
Khemchand announced the Cabinet resolution at a press conference at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Mantripukhri on Tuesday. Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Art and Culture Minister Kh. Loken Singh and Government Spokespersons Th. Radheshyam Singh and S. Ranjan Singh were also present.
The Chief Minister said the Cabinet placed on record its gratitude for Modi’s leadership and service to the country and expressed confidence that India would achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The resolution, he said, also reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to working with the Centre for peace, progress and prosperity in Manipur and the country.

According to Khemchand, Modi will complete 25 years of uninterrupted service as an elected head of government on October 7. He began his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001 and became Prime Minister in 2014.
The Chief Minister described the 25-year political journey as reflecting Modi’s commitment to public service and governance, while highlighting development initiatives undertaken during his tenure.
Speaking about Modi’s tenure as Prime Minister, Khemchand said India had witnessed significant economic growth and had emerged as one of the fastest-growing major economies.
He said India was ranked 11th among the world’s largest economies before Modi became Prime Minister and had since risen to fourth position.
Government Spokesperson Th. Radheshyam Singh outlined several initiatives from Modi’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister between 2001 and 2014.
These included the rebuilding of Kutch following the 2001 earthquake and the expansion of electricity supply to villages through the Jyotigram Yojana. He also referred to Krishi Mahotsav, Soil Health Cards and check dams as initiatives that supported agricultural development.
Radheshyam also cited the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, GIFT City and Charanka Solar Park in connection with investment and infrastructure development. He referred to Kanya Kelavani Yojana and Chiranjeevi Yojana in the areas of education and maternal healthcare, and SWAGAT as a mechanism through which citizens could directly raise grievances with the Chief Minister.
He further highlighted central welfare programmes, saying around 25 crore people had been lifted out of poverty and that free foodgrains were being provided to around 80 crore people.
Other measures cited included expansion of housing, sanitation and LPG connections, more than 59 crore Jan Dhan accounts, growth in UPI transactions, Ayushman Bharat and expansion of drinking-water connections.
Radheshyam also highlighted the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that more than 220 crore vaccine doses were provided free of cost in India and that vaccines were supplied to around 100 countries.
He cited the expansion of national highways and airports as part of the country’s infrastructure development.
On national security, the spokesperson referred to Operation Sindoor, launched following the Pahalgam terror attack, as an example of what he described as the government’s zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism.
He also referred to measures concerning women and farmers, including reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies and income support to farmers through PM-KISAN.
India’s G20 Presidency in 2023 and the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission were also cited as examples of the country’s growing global presence and technological achievements.
Radheshyam said Manipur had witnessed significant development in connectivity and infrastructure under the Modi government.
He pointed to the arrival of railway services in Manipur in 2022 as a historic milestone and highlighted the ongoing Jiribam-Imphal railway project, including the Noney Bridge, which he described as the world’s tallest railway pier bridge.
He said around 1,100 km of National Highways had been sanctioned for Manipur at an estimated investment of around Rs 16,000 crore.
The spokesperson also highlighted the signing of the peace agreement with the UNLF (P) on November 29, 2023, describing it as an important development in efforts towards peace and stability in the State.
Government Spokesperson S. Ranjan Singh highlighted other measures concerning Manipur, including the extension of the Inner Line Permit system to the State in December 2019.
He said around 240 km of the Indo-Myanmar border had been sanctioned for fencing at an estimated cost of Rs 3,223 crore.
Ranjan also said rural tap-water coverage in Manipur had increased from around 6 per cent to 80 per cent.
On education and healthcare, Ranjan highlighted the establishment of the National Sports University in Imphal and Churachandpur Medical College, which he described as the first medical college in the hill districts of Manipur.
He said more than 14 lakh people in the State had been covered under Ayushman Bharat.
According to Ranjan, Externally Aided Projects worth more than Rs 11,000 crore had been approved for Manipur, with around Rs 6,400 crore received for capital investment. He said these investments were in addition to Centrally Sponsored Schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Ranjan said the special attention given to Manipur and the Northeast had contributed to development and greater integration of the region with the rest of the country.
He said the State Government remained committed to carrying forward the Prime Minister’s vision of Seva, Sushasan and Antyodaya.
