The celebrations are intended to strengthen police-public relations, encourage fitness and healthy lifestyles, increase youth participation and promote collective efforts against social challenges, particularly drug abuse, according to a press release issued by Police Headquarters, Manipur.
The main event will be the ceremonial Raising Day Parade at the 1st Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal on October 19. Officers and personnel of Manipur Police will take part in the parade, which will showcase discipline, professionalism and public service.
Several programmes have been planned as part of the run-up to the celebrations and are being organised by different police units and district formations.
Among the major events is the Manipur Police Half Marathon 2026, scheduled for October 18. The event is expected to draw more than 3,000 participants and will include multiple race categories. Police Headquarters described it as one of the largest public sporting events organised by the force in recent years.
The Manipur Police Football Cup 2026 is another key event being organised in collaboration with the All-Manipur Football Association (AMFA). Sixteen local football teams will participate in the tournament, which is aimed at providing a platform for young footballers while promoting sportsmanship and community engagement.
Adventure and environmental activities will also form part of the celebrations. Senapati District Police will organise a trek to Mount Iso, while Ukhrul District Police will conduct a trek to Shirui Hills.
According to the police, the trekking activities are intended to encourage youth participation, promote appreciation of Manipur’s natural heritage and foster endurance and teamwork.
Other events planned across the state include football and badminton tournaments, running competitions, essay-writing contests, community outreach programmes, awareness campaigns, cleanliness drives and various district-level activities involving police personnel, students, youth and members of the public.
Manipur Police has invited citizens, students, youth, sportspersons, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to participate in the programmes associated with the Raising Day celebrations.
The police said public participation and cooperation would contribute to the success of the programmes and help strengthen relations between the police and the community.
The celebrations are being organised around the themes of unity, service, fitness, social responsibility and collective efforts towards a safer, healthier and drug-free society.
