Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and other legislators condemned the killing of three civilians in Kangpokpi district and ordered immediate action against those responsible.
Imphal, June 5: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and other legislators on Friday strongly condemned the killing of three civilians in Loibol Khullen village under the New Keithelmanbi area of Kangpokpi district and directed security agencies to take immediate action against those responsible.
In a statement issued following the attack, the Chief Minister described the incident as a heinous and cowardly act and said the deliberate targeting of unarmed civilians was completely unacceptable.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, claimed the lives of Letkhongam Haokip (34), his wife Tinmary Haokip (25), and Jangminlal Haokip (30). Several houses were also reportedly set on fire during the incident, triggering widespread concern and condemnation across the state.
Expressing grief over the killings, Khemchand Singh said the government would not spare those involved in the attack and had instructed the state police and central security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators at the earliest.
He also directed the concerned authorities to strengthen security arrangements in vulnerable areas and ensure that necessary relief and assistance are provided to the affected families.

The Chief Minister further condemned the killing of Havildar Kh. Suresh Singh of the 4th India Reserve Battalion, who was fatally stabbed while on duty on the night of June 3. He praised the Thoubal District Police for arresting the main accused on June 4 and extended his condolences to the family of the deceased police personnel.
The Loibol Khullen attack also drew strong reactions from legislators representing Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district, including Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen, and Saikul MLA Kimneo Hangshing.
Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen described the killings as a heartbreaking tragedy that had plunged the state into grief and sorrow. She expressed anguish over the loss of innocent lives, including that of a young woman, and said no family should be forced to endure such a devastating experience.
Condemning all forms of violence against civilians, she said incidents of this nature deepen the suffering of communities and undermine efforts to build a peaceful and secure future. She reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring that the rule of law prevails and that citizens' safety remains a priority.

Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen also strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a brutal assault on innocent villagers. He said the killing of civilians and destruction of homes and livelihoods deserved the strongest condemnation and called for the immediate identification and prosecution of those responsible.
The legislator urged central forces, state security agencies and the Government of India to take decisive measures to restore security in the area, protect vulnerable villages and prevent further attacks. He also sought immediate relief and rehabilitation support for affected families.
Saikul MLA Kimneo Hangshing likewise condemned the attack, calling it a heinous act of violence against innocent civilians. Expressing sorrow over the deaths and destruction caused in the village, she said no cause could justify the killing of innocent people or the devastation of peaceful communities.
Hangshing extended condolences to the bereaved families and urged authorities to take swift and effective action against those responsible while ensuring adequate protection for vulnerable villages.
The attack has generated widespread public concern and renewed calls for stronger security measures in Manipur's hill districts. Civil society organisations and local residents have demanded justice for the victims, enhanced security deployment and concrete steps to prevent further incidents.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the attack, which has once again highlighted the fragile security situation prevailing in parts of the state.
